I have 16 against dealer's 10 in a 6-deck shoe. What should I do?

Hit. With a hard 16 vs dealer 10 in a 6-deck game, hitting has an expected value of -0.5398 vs standing at -0.5404. The difference is slim, but hitting is mathematically correct.

Exception: If you're counting cards and the true count is 0 or higher, switch to Stand (Illustrious 18, deviation #2).

Surrender is even better if available: EV of -0.5000.

What about if it's a single deck?

Single deck changes things. With a hard 16 (non-pair) vs 10:

- If your 16 is composed of 3+ cards: Stand (composition-dependent strategy)

- If your 16 is 10-6 or 9-7: Still Hit

The removed cards from your hand affect the remaining deck composition significantly in single-deck play.

Truth About Systems

Betting Systems: Exposed

No betting system can convert a losing game into a profitable one. Here's the mathematical proof for every popular system.

Martingale

No Edge

Double after each loss. Catastrophic 19.65% ruin rate.

Fibonacci

No Edge

Bet Fibonacci sequence after losses. Slower than Martingale, same result.

D'Alembert

No Edge

Increase by one unit after loss, decrease after win. Steady decline.

Labouchere

No Edge

Cancellation system. Complex but mathematically identical outcome.

Oscar's Grind

No Edge

Conservative progressive. Lower variance but house edge persists.

1-3-2-6

No Edge

Positive progression. Fun but no mathematical advantage.

Card Counting

Edge

Hi-Lo system with 1-10 spread yields ~0.59% player advantage.

“The only system that works is one that changes the mathematical expectation — like card counting.”
